"Tricorno"

Colli Toscana Centrale IGT

 
This is the ''cutting edge'' of Castello di Poppiano: a "Supertuscan" composed of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Here Tuscan tradition and Tuscan innovation meet: the cherry aromas and flavour of Sangiovese combine with the darker fruits of Cabernet and Merlot.
 
Elevation-Exposure:  220-270 m (720-890 ft) a.s.l.- East/North-east

Soil  :  Locally called ''Alberese'', medium textured soil deriving from calcareous conglomerates intermixed with clay, well drained.

Training System :  Cordon trained, short spur pruned.

Vines per Hectare :  5300 (2150/acre)

Grape Varieties :  Sangiovese 45%, Cabernet Sauvignon 35%, Merlot 20%

Harvest :  Depending on varietals: Merlot between the 10th and the 20th of September, Sangiovese between the15 th of September and the 10th of October, Cabernet Sauvignon between the 5th and the 15th of October.

Wine Making :  In vats at a controlled temperature of 28-29°C (82-84°F) with maceration of 18-20 days.

Maturing :  In vats, then for 18-24 months in French Oak barrique (Allier). At least 3 months in the bottle.

Tasting Notes :  Color: very intense dark ruby with purple hues
Nose: elegant, well balanced: light vanilla with balsamic notes enriched by hints of chocolate, leather and fruity notes of blackbarrys and prunes.
Taste: impressive powerful body, rich, with soft tannins and subtle elegant lively texture. Longlasting, full, tasty finish.
