The Wines of Castello di Poppiano an Massi di Mandorlaia had an outstanding performance at the Seventh “Selezione Vini di Toscana” (Selection of Tuscan Wines). This selection is carried out every two years by the Tuscan Region. In late 2006 the Seventh Editino took place.

The samples are made anonymous by a coding system controlled by a notare. The evaluation is performed by special commissions composed by 5 experienced members: 3 oenologist, 1 Italian or Foreign Journalist and 1 Sommelier, based on the “Union International des Onologues” method. Each member evaluates and rates autonomously. The final score of each sample is the avergae, after eliminating highest and lowest score.

The wines rated more than 80/100 are retained and published. But only those rated more than 85/200 are awarded tht “GRAN MENZIONE” (“Special mention”). In the Seventh Selection, out of 1064 wines presented, only 228 (21%) were awarded the Gran Menzione.

The performance of Conte Ferdinando Guicciardini Estates has been outstanding. All the submitted cinese were published and seven wines out of the eight submitted (88%) were awarded with the Gran Menzione (six wines out of six (100%) from Castello di Poppiano and one out of two from Massi di Mandorlaia.

A clear confirmation that the qualità of the wines of Castello di Poppiano and Massi di Mandorlaia is by far above the average of Tuscna Wines. We are proud of it.
