"Syrah"

Colli Toscana Centrale IGT

Syrah thrives in the ''alberese'' soils of Castello di Poppiano - it is the ideal environment to highlight its well known qualities, and is the backbone of this wine. A bit of Sangiovese adds smoothness and finesse. Those who appreciate Syrah will note the elegance of breeding in its dark cherry and pepper notes with the ''morello'' cherry flavour of Sangiovese.

Elevation-Exposure :  220-270 m (720-890 ft) a.s.l. - East/North-east
Soil :  Locally called ''Alberese'', medium textured soil deriving from calcareous conglomerates intermixed with clay, well drained.
Training System :  Cordon trained, short spur pruned.
Vines per Hectare :  4700-5300
Grape Varieties :  Syrah 90%, Sangiovese 10%
Harvest  :  Depending on grape variety: Syrah between September 10th and September 20th, Sangiovese between September 15th and October 5th.
Wine Making :  In vats at a controlled temperature of 26-28 °C (79-82°F); maceration 15-18 days.
Maturing  :  In vats and subsequently 12 months in French Oak (Allier) barriques; 3 months maturing in bottle.
Tasting Notes :  Color: purple intense, bright.
Nose: pepper and cloves open up to fruits such as black berries, red currant and cherry with complex delicate "boise'" notes.
Taste: roundness balanced with a solid but not aggressive body. Smooth, voluptuous texture. Long finish with intriguing fruity notes.
