Castello di Poppiano
 
The Extravirgin Olive Oil of Castello di Poppiano derives from olives harvested from November to December in all the olive groves of the estate. It is a typical Tuscan Olive Oil.
 
Olive Groves  Olivete dell'Olmo, Macine, Casetta, Fabiole
Elevation - Exposure :  250-290 m (820-950ft) a.s.l. -South/ South-east
Soil :  Locally called ''Alberese'', medium textured soil deriving from calcareous conglomerates intermixed with clay, well drained.
Plants per hectare :  220-550 olive trees
Olive Varietals  :  Frantoio 80%, Moraiolo 15%, Leccino e Pendolino 5%
Production per hectare :  6 quintals (1 kg/plant) - 0.6 tons/na (0.25 tons/acre , 30 fl.oz/.plant)
Harvest :  Handmade in November - December.
Processing :  Immediate processing after harvesting (within 24 hours), pressing at strictly controlled cool temperature, 26-27°C (79- 81°F).
Yield in Olive Oil :  15-18% (ratio between the weight of oil and that of the olives).
Conservation :  In steel vats
Tasting :  Colour: Green.
Nose: Fruity and floral aroma of ripe olive.
Taste: Dry almonds with a smooth flavour of ripe olive balanced by a pleasant neat spicy slightly bitter aftertaste.
Annual Production :  30.000 bottles
